Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED)


The mission of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) is to develop economic opportunities by keeping Nebraska businesses, communities and people globally competitive.   From its creation by the Legislature in 1967, DED’s emphasis has been on growing and diversifying the state’s “economic base,” which is economic activity that brings new dollars into the state.

DED primarily focuses on 5 pillars supporting the economic development process:

  2. Support for retention and expansion of existing industry

  3. Support for business startup and growth

  4. Recruitment of new industry

  5. Tourism development
